Advanced (Optional) IT Control Features

If you would like to utilize the hopTo Work advanced features, you can edit the hopTo Work group settings at any time. The Edit Group Policy settings give you and IT management control over what users can access on which devices, cloud source storage, SharePoint access, and file sharing functionality.

To edit the hopTo Work group settings, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the server host machine as administrator
  2. Click Start
  3. Enter “Edit Group Policy”
  4. In the left pane, browse to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> hopTo Work Settings.
  5. Double-click one of the settings to modify or enable it.

Note: If you edit any group policy setting, the new settings won’t take effect for currently logged in users until they have logged off and logged back in.

There are five Group Policy features that are easy to enable and manage:

Enable hopTo for users under this GPO

If enabled, this will allow users under this GPO to connect to hosts using the hopTo client. Normal Remote Desktop service is unaffected as this is enabled by default.

Enable access to cloud storage accounts from the hopTo workspace

This setting controls which (if any) cloud storage providers are available to hopTo users. Please note that enabling storage providers here will make those providers available to hopTo users, but they will still need to authenticate those accounts to use them in the hopTo workspace.

Note: This setting is not stored in a policies key, so it’s considered a preference. If the Group Policy Object that implements this setting is removed, the setting will remain.

Enable access to SharePoint from the hopTo workspace

This setting specifies the SharePoint server URLs that can be accessed by hopTo users.

Note: This setting is also not stored in a policies key.

Enable documents from other apps to be opened in the hopTo app

The hopTo app supports opening documents from other apps. Generally, this feature can pose a potential security risk as it allows external documents to be saved in the secure hopTo environment.

If enabled, this feature is available to hopTo users under this GPO.

Note: This feature is enabled by default. This setting is not stored in a policies key.

Enable file sharing functionality from the hopTo app

The hopTo app supports a variety of file sharing capabilities, such as “Email as attachment”, “Open In…” to open documents in other apps on the client device, and so on. Generally, all such features pose a potential security risk as they allow documents to escape the secure hopTo environment. If enabled, these sharing features will be available to hopTo users under this GPO. This feature is enabled by default.

Note: This setting is also not stored in a policies key.
